MANAGEMENT TEAM

Steven Davis
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Prior to founding The Climate Conservancy, Mr. Davis received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia and was an associate for several years with the Silicon Valley law firm of Gray, Cary, Ware and Freidenrich, LLP (now DLA Piper) where he specialized in mergers/acquisitions and venture capital financings.  Jumping fields in 2004, he took his liberal arts background to graduate school at Stanford University, where he is now a doctoral candidate studying earth science and environmental geochemistry.  Given free time, Mr. Davis enjoys backpacking very long distances, fly fishing, and picking the guitar.

James Sweeney
Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Sweeney is a researcher in Stanford University's Environmental Measurements Lab II, which specializes in measuring continental climate change. He has worked in a similar capacity for Dartmouth College and has worked as a teacher and researcher in Yellowstone National Park. Prior to his work at Stanford, Mr. Sweeney spent several years as a database administrator and web administrator for ESI International, a project management training company. He is currently interested in the relationship between business and the energy field, which explains his involvement with The Climate Conservancy. He spends his free time playing music, cooking and reading.

Matthew Rothe
Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Rothe received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in May 2007. Raised on a farm and interested in biofuels, he took a summer internship in which he launched and secured seed capital for Community Biodiesel, Inc. Prior to attending business school, he held the position of Director of Operations for Niman Ranch, Inc., an entrepreneurial, venture-backed natural food company that supports small family agriculture. Mr. Rothe graduated with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Earth Science from Dartmouth College. In his free time, he enjoys reading, fly fishing, trail running and cooking.

Nathan Rothe
Director of Engineering Science

Mr. Rothe is a graduate researcher in the Environmental Science and Engineering Department of the Colorado School of Mines. His doctoral dissertation involves innovative on-site wastewater treatment and the biological recycling of organic wastes into useful feedstocks.



Laila Mattos

Research Scientist

Ms. Mattos is a graduate student researcher in the Physics Department at Stanford University, working in the field of nanotechnology and scanning probe microscopy. She is interested in new alternative energy solutions and in reducing the impact of existing technologies on the environment. She also enjoys photography, music and cooking.


Kristen Davis
Consulting Engineer

Ms. Davis is a graduate researcher in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Stanford University. Prior to entering graduate school, Ms. Davis worked with the W. Alton Jones Foundation assisting the director with research on anthropogenic contaminants linked to endocrine disruption as well as other environmental initiatives.



Bethany Wylie

Ms. Wylie is a sophomore at Stanford University working to carefully quantify and inform Americans about their "carbon footprints" and where the greatest savings can be made. She is majoring in anthropology and minoring in geological and environmental sciences.


Elise Post

Ms. Post is a sophomore at Stanford University helping to assemble TCC's database of scientific life cycle assessments (LCAs) of commodity goods and petrochemicals. She is interested in public policy concerning climate change and the relationship between earth science and ecology.
