560,000 units of Product X are manufacted by Company Y each year, and are distributed among 45 states. Manufacturing operations are located in the state of Wisconsin. Raw materials are sourced in California, Washington, Iowa, Kansas and Virginia.



DIRECT MOBILE - Fuel burned during transport of raw materials and finished goods account for nearly half of the GHGs associated with each unit of Product X.

DIRECT STATIONARY - Fuel burned in pumps and furnaces in the manufacturing facilities comprise a significant portion of Product X's GHG emissions.

DIRECT PROCESS - Chemical reactions during the manufacture of Product X produce some CO2.

DIRECT FUGITIVE - Leakage of HFCs from refrigeration units make up a relatively large portion of Product X's GHG emissions.

INDIRECT ELECTRICITY - Nearly all electricity purchased by Company Y is renewable (in the form of Green-e certified RECs).

INDIRECT BUSINESS TRAVEL - When allocated among all units of Product X produced by Company Y, employee commuting and air travel in the course of operating the business are responsible for a relatively small percentage of emitted GHGs.
